August ‘Uncle Gus’ was born December 25, 1892 in Banning, Pennsylvania and died February 28, 1962 in Hackett, Pennsylvania at the family farm.
Gus never married and lived at home his entire life. Inducted into army on May 24, 1918 in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. He severed with American Expeditionary forces in France in World War I. He sailed out from the United States on August 8, 1918 and returned on April 19, 1919. He was discharged from the army at Camp Dix, New Jersey on May 3rd, 1919. He was gassed in the war and went to Aspinwell for treatment.
He worked as a coal miner and on the family farm in Hackett, Pennsylvania. He was a member of the Loyal Order of Moose in Finleyville and Hackett Club.
Hear is could make some really good homemade wine that he would hide in the old coal mine shaft on the family farm.
